Chinese Drum Team
The W F Joseph Lee Primary School Chinese Drum Team was founded in 2011. The aim is to develop students’ music potential and promote Chinese music and culture. The team has regular practices and there are now more than 30 members from the junior and senior year levels. The team has participated in performances for various events such as Water Race and the Opening Ceremony of the Sports and Arts Building. Besides, the team has earned the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards at Hong Kong Synergy 24 Drum Competition and the Joint School Music Competition.
Thanks to the support from school, the Chinese Drum Team had a chance to go on an excursion to Shanxi. Students learnt a lot in this learning excursion as they received professional training by Shanxi Jiangzhou Drum Troupe.
Chinese Orchestra
The W F Joseph Lee Primary School Chinese Orchestra was founded in 2012. The aim is to provide high-quality training to students and promote Chinese music and culture. There are now around 30 members in the Chinese Orchestra. The members play a wide range of instruments, including erhu, dizi, sheng, liuqin, pipa, guzheng, zhongruan, cello and percussion, etc. There are regular practice sessions and we have taken part in various performances and competitions such as Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows and the Joint School Music Competition. The Chinese Orchestra has earned the Gold, Silver and Bronze Awards in those competitions.
Handbell and Handchime Ensemble
The W F Joseph Lee Primary School Handbell and Handchime Ensemble was established in 2009. The aim is to arouse and sustain students' interest in music, cultivate team spirit, build up students’ self-confidence as well as to improve their concentration and patience in music learning. There are 20 members in the team. The team has participated in performances for various occasions and competitions such as Christmas show at Hong Kong International Airport, Hong Kong Joint School Music Competition and Hong Kong International Handbell Olympics. The team has earned the Gold and Silver Awards respectively at the above mentioned competitions.
Orchestra
The W F Joseph Lee Primary School Orchestra (formerly Windband) was founded in 2005. The aim is to develop students’ potential in music, improve their music accomplishment and provide high-quality and all-round music training to our students. There are now over 50 members in the Orchestra. They play a wide range of instruments, including violin, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, French horn, euphonium, tuba and percussions.
The Orchestra has participated in performances for various events held at different elderly community centres and HK Disneyland, etc. We have also earned Gold and Silver Awards at the Joint School Music Competition and Bronze Award at Hong Kong Youth Music Interflows.
In addition, the Orchestra was given the opportunity to go on a learning excursion to Taiwan. Students gained valuable experience and knowledge in this excursion. The visit of a disabled centre helped them understand how disabled people learn music. It was a good experience and team spirit was established. Everyone enjoyed the trip a lot!
Senior and Junior Choir
The W F Joseph Lee Primary School Senior and Junior Choirs were founded in 2004 and 2012 respectively. The aim is to provide training opportunities for students who have potential and passion in singing, hence broadening their horizons in the field of music while strengthening their self-confidence.
The team size is 50 members each for the Senior Choir and Junior Choir. The choir members have had fruitful experiences from competitions and performances. They have participated in the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival, the Joint School Music Competition and performed in a Christmas show at the Hong Kong International Airport. The Senior Choir has earned the Gold Prize at the Joint School Music Competition, while the Junior Choir has earned the 2nd Runner-up at the Hong Kong Schools Music Festival.
The Senior Choir members were grateful to have been invited to perform in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Youth New Year Concert. Moreover, they attended a workshop given by the choir director of the Chorus Juventus of the Vienna Boys Choir.
