07 Bringing Hopes to Others
By Ms. Yuen Lo Ka
The main theme of this school year is ‘Hope’. The definition of ‘Hope’ is to have various goals with positive thinking and expect to achieve goals with confidence.
As the school always teaches our students it is important to have hopes in our lives, I believe many of them have different hopes. In one of the Life Education lessons, I asked my students what they wanted most. Some of them would like to be the champion of a swimming or fencing competition, some were eager to get good grades in exams or dreamt to become a fireman someday. From the discussion, I realized that students learnt how to plan and find different ways to achieve their goals.
Besides having your own hope, it is also important to bring hope to the people around you. Famous people like Nick Vujiji, Mother Teresa and Malala Yousafzai are people who have physical disabilities. They had a tragic accident or failure experiences. Even though they have been through difficult times, they all have hopes and have found different ways to bring hope to the people around them.
So, as for primary school students, what can you do to bring hope to others? You can wear a smile, simply say ‘Hello’, be willing to share, say kind words or encourage other people. In order to bring hope to the community and to the world, you can help protecting the environment. For example, say no to plastic bags, plastic straws, and plastic cutleries, so less and less plastic waste will be dumped into the oceans in order not to hurt any animals.
Students can serve the community by selling flags, or participate in community services. You can also donate some old clothes, toys or stationery to the people in need. By doing these, you are actually spreading and bringing hope to others. There are benefits by bringing hope to others, it can actually help you sleep better, do better in school, be healthier and become a happier person.
Let’s start bringing hopes to people today!
